LOS ANGELES - Freshman Pedrag Damjanov capped an incredible rally with 1:17 remaining as the No. 4 USC Trojan men's water polo team recorded a 7-6 win Saturday over the No. 7 Long Beach State 49ers at McDonald's Swim Stadium. The Trojans (1-0), who were down by three goals with 41 seconds remaining in the third quarter, scored four unanswered goals in their 2000 regular season opener.
Senior George Csaszar scored three goals for the Trojans, including the game-tying goal at 2:08 of the fourth period. After a save by Bozidar Damjanovic, Csaszar went end-to-end and scored in dramatic fashion.
"George showed a lot of heart," said USC Head Coach Jovan Vavic. "He hasn't practiced lately, but he and the team stayed poised. The team really executed down the stretch. Without the two-point shot this year, every match will be very competitive."
