
Defending Champion Andrew Park Advances To Quarterfinals

MALIBU, Calif. -- USC's Andrew Park won his third round match Friday, Oct. 26, to advance to the quarterfinal round of the 2001 Omni Hotels ITA Region VIII - South Championships hosted by Pepperdine at the Ralphs-Straus Tennis Center in Malibu. Park is among five seeded players who remain in the singles draw.
Quarterfinal round action is scheduled for tomorrow (Oct. 27) at 9 a.m., with semifinal round matches to follow at 12:30 p.m. The championship match will be played on Sunday (Oct. 28) at 1 p.m.
Park, the tournament's No. 3 seed, defeated Mirza Duranovic of Arizona State in straight sets by scores of 6-3, 6-2 to advance. Park, the current defending champion, will face Tobias Clemens of UCLA on Saturday.
The Trojans' Damien Spizzo was eliminated from the championship today after retiring his match against Calle Hansen of Pepperdine.
In doubles play, both of USC's tandems were eliminated Friday in the second round after defaulting the matches.
