OJAI, Calif. - USC junior Ryan Moore will compete for his first-ever Pac-10 singles title Sunday afternoon when he faces Stanford's K.J. Hippensteel in the singles final of the Pacific-10 Conference Men's Tennis Championship.
The 77th-ranked Moore, who defeated 61st-ranked Jean-Noel Grinda of UCLA 6-3, 6-2 in the semifinals on Saturday, also upset No.1-ranked Alex Kim of Stanford in the quarterfinals to earn the finals bid. In the singles semifinals, No. 21 Hippensteel outlasted 12th-ranked Jean-Julien Rojer of UCLA 6-7 (5), 7-6 (6), 6-4. Moore and Hippensteel have split their previous two meetings this season. Moore took the last match-up 6-4, 6-1 in Stanford.
The Pac-10 women's singles invitational final will be an all-USC affair as junior Krissy Hamilton-Heinberg will face off against freshman Melissa Esmero. Hamilton-Heinberg advanced to her first-ever Pac-10 invitational final with a 6-4, 7-5 win over Erin Hoe of Washington. Esmero reached her first collegiate tournament final with an easy 6-2, 6-1 victory over Nicole Havlicek of Cal.
