Tempe, Ariz. - Sophomore All-American Candie Kung shot a 68 final round to lead a team round of 286 as the No. 3 USC women's golf team rallied from six strokes back on Sunday to win the Ping/ASU Invitational held at Karsten Golf Course in Tempe, Ariz., on April 7-9.
It was USC's second tournament win of the 2000-2001 season and gives the Women of Troy momentum heading into the Pac-10 Championships to be held on April 23-25, also at Karsten Golf Course in Tempe.
USC finished four strokes ahead of a fine field that included No. 2 Arizona, No. 5 Stanford, No. 6 New Mexico State, No. 16 TCU, No. 10 Tulsa and tourney host No. 23 Arizona State. The Women of Troy entered the final round trailing first place Arizona by six strokes, but picked up stellar rounds from Kung (68), sophomore Mikaela Parmlid (71) and junior Leila Chartrand (73) as the 286 final round total equalled USC's second lowest of the season. In the final tally, USC finished at 889, with Arizona State second (893), TCU third (895) and Arizona and Stanford at fourth (896).
Individually, USC was lead by Parmlid, who finished tied for fifth (219), and by Kung, who tied for ninth (221).
