LOS ANGELES-Sean Rooney had 18 kills to lead the No. 3-ranked Pepperdine men's volleyball team to a 30-20, 30-15, 30-26 win over USC in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation contest on Thursday (March 7) in the USC North Gym.
The Waves improved to 16-4 overall and 11-2 in the MPSF. USC dropped its sixth straight match to fall to 5-17 (its slowest start ever) and 2-14 in the MPSF.
Pepperdine served 14 aces, including 5 by Fred Winters, 4 by Brad Keenan and 3 by Beau Daniels. The Waves also had 10.0 team blocks, with Chris Van Reusen getting 5. Rooney hit .440 overall.
For USC, which hit only .129, Brook Billings had 10 kills and Josh Day had 5 blocks.
USC next hosts No. 12 Long Beach State on Wednesday (March 20) at 7 p.m. in the USC North Gym.
