Fusaro Named To Verizon Academic All-District VIII Team

USC sophomore diver Nicci Fusaro, a three-time All-American in 2002, was named to the 2002 Verizon Academic All-District VIII Women's At-Large second team it was announced on Thursday (May 16).
Fusaro, among 30 athletes selected from District VIII, will now be included on the national Verizon Women's At-Large Academic All-American ballot. First, second and third team national winners will be announced on June 13.
The At-Large ballot includes athletes from the following sports: swimming and diving, crew, gymnastics, skiing, fencing, ice hockey, water polo, field hockey, lacrosse, tennis, golf and rifle. A total of 94 athletes were nominated from 36 schools on the District VIII At-Large ballot.
Athletes must have at least a 3.20 GPA, be a "starter" or "important reserve" on their team and must be in at least their second season at their school to be eligible.
Fusaro, a fine arts major from Cincinnati with a 3.71 GPA, became one of two USC divers ever to final in each diving specialty at one NCAA Championships in March. She was the 2002 Pac-10 champion in 1-meter springboard and platform and earned Pac-10 All-Academic first team honors.
