Joey Metropoulos Earns Baseball America Freshman All-America Honors

LOS ANGELES -- Designated hitter Joey Metropoulos was named today to the 2002 Baseball America Freshman All-America team, becoming the eighth Trojan to earn first team honors.
Metropoulos was third on the team this season with a .352 batting average and hit 13 home runs with 65 RBI. He led the team with a .653 slugging percentage.
He joins seven other players who have earned Baseball America Freshman All-America first team honors: Bret Boone (1988), Brett Jenkins (1989), Gabe Alvarez (1993), Randy Flores (1994), Jacque Jones (1994), Eric Munson (1997) and Beau Craig (1999).
The Trojans finished the 2002 season with a 37-24 record and their second straight Pac-10 Conference championship.
