July 13, 2026 | Baseball
PHILADELPHIA -- On the second and final day of the 2026 MLB Draft a trio of Trojans heard their names called as USC's Augie Lopez, Grant Govel and Adam Troy were all selected.
Lopez was taken by the Padres in the 10th round, Govel was selected in the 16th round by the Pirates and Troy was taken in the 17th round by the Phillies. The three selections come on the heels of Mason Edwards being selected in the second round on Saturday, giving USC four total picks in the 2026 draft.
Lopez, a draft eligible sophomore, batted .278 in 61 games and 58 starts at the DH spot for the Trojans this past season. Lopez hit a team-high 19 home runs and drove in 57 runs while scoring 50. His 19 long balls were the most by a Trojan since Ricky Oropesa in 2010 and tied Mark McGwire for the seventh most in a season by a USC player.
Govel was part of USC's two-headed monster on the mound this season alongside Edwards, putting up ace numbers with a 2.87 ERA and 10-3 record. His 10 wins were the most by a USC pitcher since Ian Kennedy in 2005, while his 1.39 walks per nine innings were the sixth best in Trojan history. Govel also posted the fourth best WHIP in the country at 0.90 and his 6.19 strikeout-to-walk ratio was 12th in the nation. Govel earned both All-American and All-Big Ten recognition. Another draft eligible sophomore, he has two years of eligibility remaining.
Troy, a redshirt-junior transfer from Pepperdine, served as USC's closer this season, posting 12 saves and a 4.28 ERA in 31 relief appearances on the mound. His 12 saves were tied for the sixth most in the country. Troy struck out 39 batters and held opponents to a .219 average. He was named to the All-Big Ten second team this season.
The three selections on Sunday gives USC a total of 361 all-time MLB Draft picks in its history.
