SEATTLE -- Washington senior forward Tina Frimpong (Vancouver, Wash./Hudson's Bay) scored her school-record 35th career goal with 42 seconds left in the final overtime Friday, lifting the seventh-ranked Washington women to a 2-1 triumph over the USC Trojans at Husky Soccer Field. The loss snapped the Women of Troy's five-game winning streak.
An overflow crowd of 2,873 watched the Huskies play their first game in Seattle since Sept. 3, a span of 41 days between home dates. UW improved its record to 10-2-1 and 1-1-1 in Pac-10 play. USC dropped to 8-4-1 overall with a 2-1 conference mark.
Frimpong collected a pass from junior Kim Taylor (Woodland Hills, Calif.) and sent a 15-yard strike from the right side of the box into the upper left corner for the golden goal.
Frimpong became the Huskies' all-time scoring leader, moving past Tami Bennett who amassed 34 goals from 1997-2000. Bennett is currently a UW assistant coach.
After a scoreless first half, USC got on the board just over nine minutes after intermission. Rosa Anna Tantillo received a through pass from Shannon Cross and slid it inside the right post at 49:23. Tantillo registered her team-leading ninth goal of the season.
Nikki Gamble (Oak Harbor, Wash./Oak Harbor) netted the equalizer at 65:41 with her sixth goal of the season. She gathered a cross from Shannon Dillon and booted it into the left side of the goal. Dillon was credited with an assist just three minutes after entering the game as Washington¹s only reserve.
Sophomore goalkeeper Kelsey Rasmussen (Gig Harbor, Wash./Bellarmine Prep) registered two saves for the Huskies. Veronica Simonton had six saves for the Trojans who were outshot by an 18-7 margin.
USC travels to Washington State on Sunday for a Pac-10 match beginning at noon. The Cougars upset No. 8 UCLA earlier today with a 1-0 victory in Pullman.
