Christopher (C.J.) Schellenberg, a senior 6-7 opposite hitter at prep volleyball power Loyola High in Los Angeles, has signed a letter of intent with USC, Trojan men's volleyball coach Turhan Douglas announced today.
Schellenberg, who is regarded among the top recruits in the nation, was a member of the 2004 U.S. Men's Junior National Team.
"C.J. is the nation's top player in this year's recruiting class," said Douglas. "He is an unstoppable left-handed hitter who has had great success at the high school and club level. He helps make his teams into winners. We're looking forward to him bringing that attitude and ability to our program. He'll be an excellent addition to the young players we have in here now."
Schellenberg played on the SCVC Kaepa 18 Blue team that won the open gold division at the 2004 USA Boys' Junior Olympics and on Loyola's 2004 CIF Division I champion, where as a junior he made the 2004 All-CIF Division I first team and Los Angeles Times All-Star second team.
He also was on the 2003 U.S. Boys' Youth National Team.
