USC Men's Volleyball Upsets No. 12 UC Irvine

Andrew Vernon and Pedro Leal each had 15 kills to help the unranked USC men's volleyball team upset No. 12 UC Irvine, 30-23, 30-27, 39-37, in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation match on Saturday (March 12) in USC's North Gym.
USC improved to 6-17 overall and 2-13 in the MPSF. The Anteaters dropped their eighth consecutive match to fall to 6-17 and 4-12.
USC overcame a 20-16 deficit in the third game and fought off 2 game points to win.
Vernon hit .700 and had a match-best 5 blocks, while Leal hit .400 and served 2 aces. USC teammates Joao Grangeiro and Chris McKniff both added 10 kills (Grangeiro also had 6 digs, while McKniff hit .412).
For UCI, Matt Webber had 14 kills and Jayson Jablonsky had 13 kills.
The Trojans outhit UCI, .388 to .240.
USC next plays at No. 2 Pepperdine in an MPSF match on March 17.
