Freshman Dewi-Claire Schreefel was USC's top performer for the second day in row, shooting a 3-over-par 74 to lead the USC women's golf team on a rainy, windy second day at the 2005 NCAA Women's Golf Championships at Sunriver (Ore.) Resort on Wednesday (May 18).
USC, the 2003 NCAA champs, started the day in first, but the weather took its toll on the Women of Troy, who finished the day a combined 312 (+28) in seventh. USC went to the clubhouse at 599 (+31) for the first half of the tournament, 13 strokes behind Pepperdine and Auburn, which are tied for first. No team came within 11 strokes of par on the miserable day.
Schreefel bogeyed three of the first six holes, but shot par the rest of the way, leaving her among four leaders after two days at 144 (+2). Junior Irene Cho shot her second consecutive solid round, coming in at 75 today for a two-day total of 148 (+6).
Sophomores Veronica Felibert and Catalina Marin, who both shot 72s on Tuesday, shot 80 and 83, respectively, on Wednesday, while junior Tanya Dergal shot an 87. Felibert heads into the third day at 152 (+10) and is followed by Marin at 155 (+13) and Dergal at 161 (+19).
The tournament continues Thursday and Friday (May 19-20).
