
Incoming Swimmer Soni Wins U.S. National Title

Rebecca Soni, a 2005-2006 incoming USC freshman swimmer, won her first career national title by gliding to a decisive victory in the 200m breaststroke on the second day of the 2005 ConocoPhillips U.S. Summer Nationals on Thursday (Aug. 4) in Irvine.
Soni, who will represent the U.S. at the 2005 World University Games later this month in Turkey, won in 2:26.27, more than three seconds ahead of second-place Staciana Winfield (formerly Stitts), a 2000 Olympian. Tara Kirk, a 2004 Olympic qualifier in the race, was fourth.
