
Juan Figueroa Named MPSF Player Of The Week

Sophomore outside hitter Juan Figueroa has been named the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation's Men's Volleyball Player of the Week for the second time in 2006 after he led the Trojans to an upset victory over No. 4 Pepperdine last week.
Figueroa helped the Trojans to their first victory over the Waves since 2001 (snapping a 9-match losing streak to Pepperdine) by getting 17 kills, 5 blocks, 5 digs and 2 aces.
Earlier this season, he was the MPSF Player of the Week on Feb. 6 when he led the Trojans to an upset over No. 5 UCLA and then to the championship of the Golden Dome Classic with wins over New Jersey Institute of Technology and host Rutgers-Newark.
USC is 11-14 overall with a No. 9 national rankings (its highest since late in the 2001 season) and owns a 7-12 mark in the MPSF. The Trojans host Cal Baptist, the NAIA's co-No.1-ranked team and its 2-time defending national champion, on Wednesday (March 29) at 7 p.m. in the North Gym.
