Taylor Wilson and Matt Webber each had 18 kills to lead the top-ranked UC Irvine men's volleyball team to a 30-16, 28-30, 30-26, 30-20 win over No. 14 USC in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation match at Irvine on Wednesday (Jan. 24).
The Anteaters remained undefeated at 9-0 overall and 5-0 in the MPSF, while the Trojans fell to 2-5 and 1-3.
UC Irvine hit .346 in the match to USC's .192 and served 9 aces, including 3 by Wilson. Wilson hit .324, Webber hit .353 and had 9 digs, Jayson Jablonsky added 16 kills (hitting .321) and 11 digs and David Smith hit .471 with 10 kills and 7 blocks.
For USC, C.J. Schellenberg had 17 kills, 7 digs and 4 blocks, while Juan Figueroa had 10 kills and 7 blocks.
USC next travels to No. 5 UCLA (3-4, 1-3) for a 7 p.m. MPSF match on Saturday (Jan. 27) in the Kilgour Cup with Lexus Gauntlet points on the line in the crosstown rivalry.
