USC Women's Rowing overtook Brown in latest CRCA/USRowing poll, taking 19 first place votes on the way to their first ever top ranking in the poll as they head into the stretch run of the season. With only the dual race left between the Women of Troy and UCLA, the Trojans are poised to make a strong push for the Pac-10 team championship in May.
The Trojans began the season ranked No. 10 in the preseason poll but quickly moved up to No. 8 after defeating LMU at home. After winning the coveted Jessop-Whittier Cup at the San Diego Crew Classic, the crew moved up to No. 2 in the Apr. 4 poll.
Most recently completing a perfect run in the 2007 Charles River Challenge in Boston, Mass., USC claimed the top spot in this week's USRowing/Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association NCAA Division I Varsity Eight Coaches Poll. USC rose to the No. 1 ranking in the poll by earning 19 of 24 first-place votes. Brown University, last week's top-ranked boat, received the remaining five first-place votes to rank second. Ohio State remained in third position, followed by Yale University and the University of Virginia.
