USC Women’s Rowing Places Sixth at the Big Ten Championships
May 17, 2026 | Women's Rowing
The Varsity Four and Second Varsity Four won their Petite Finals on Sunday.
INDIANAPOLIS — The USC Women's Rowing Team placed sixth at the Big Ten Conference Championships, held at the Indianapolis Rowing Center on Friday, May 15.
Helped by Petite Final wins by the Varsity Four and the Second Varsity Four, the Trojans matched their sixth-place finish from last season and were 72 points behind fifth-place UCLA. Washington successfully defended its Big Ten title by scoring 350 points.
The Varsity Four gave the Trojans a lift late in the morning with an open-water victory in the Petite Final with a time of 7:54.52. USC pulled away in the third 500-meter segment of the race, then increased its rate down the stretch to beat Iowa by nearly three seconds.
USC's next race was not as close. The Second Varsity Four led from wire-to-wire in an open-water victory with a time of 8:21.24. The Trojans' time was nearly eight seconds faster than runner-up Iowa.
USC's Varsity Eight began the day with a second-place finish in the Petite Final with a time of 6:44.89. In the closest race of the day, the Trojans were edged out by Minnesota, which fended off a late USC surge en route to a three-seat victory.
Rounding out the USC races, the Second Varsity Eight placed fourth in the Grand Final with a time of 6:51.95. The Second Varsity Eight was the lone USC boat in a Grand Final race. In a race against boats from four ranked teams, the senior-heavy USC crew beat No. 16 Ohio State's boat in a competitive grand final. Of the four USC seniors in the boat, Isabella Korellis stroked the boat in her first-ever regatta to help the Trojans beat the Buckeyes and score important points for the team.
Upon the conclusion of the regatta, three Trojans earned All-Big Ten awards: Viktoryia Vasilyeva made the first team, Gerli Endrekson made the second team, plus Isabella Korellis was USC's Big Ten Sportsmanship Award winner.
