USC Women’s Rowing to Compete at Big Ten Championships, Races Moved up to Today

Due to inclement weather on Saturday, the conference championships will begin at 3:00 p.m. PT today.
INDIANAPOLIS — The USC Women's Rowing Team will begin the Big Ten Championships today in Indianapolis, Ind. at 3:00 p.m. PT.
The championships were originally scheduled for May 16-17, yet the races were moved up to this evening to avoid inclement weather on Saturday. Races will resume as scheduled on Sunday, May 17 at 6:02 a.m. PT.
USC is sending five boats to Big Tens: A Varsity Eight, Second Varsity Eight, Varsity Four, Second Varsity Four and a Third Varsity Four. The team's season-best times for the Eights is 5:55.90 (March 6 vs. UCLA), while the team's best time in the Fours is 7:23.03 (May 2 vs. San Diego).
Eleven Big Ten teams will participate in seven races and all categories will have a point system that will determine the overall champion. Friday night's heats will be split into groups of five and six, with the top three finishers from each heat advancing to the Grand Finals on Sunday. The remaining five boats will compete in the Petite Finals.
The Trojans are looking to improve upon a sixth-place finish from last season, which saw three boats make the grand finals in the program's Big Ten debut. Washington, the fourth-ranked team in the CRCA National Poll, comes in as the defending champion, while three other Big Ten teams rank in the top 25 (No. 16 Ohio State, No. 17 Michigan and No. 18 UCLA).
