USC freshman Jamie Lovemark, the 2007 NCAA men's golf individual champion, posted a pair of singles wins to help the U.S. defeat Europe, 18-6, and reclaim the Palmer Cup at Caves Valley G.C. in Owings Mills, Md.
The U.S. is now 6-4-1 all-time in the Ryder Cup-style match-up among top amateur players.
In Friday's finale, Lovemark led all but one hole against Mark Haastrup, a Georgia State freshman from Denmark, in his 2 and 1 win. Lovemark went 3-up thru 8 but Haastrup would cut the lead to one hole after Nos. 11 and 14. Lovemark birdied the 17th for the victory.
Earlier in the week, Lovemark also downed Welshman and Eastern Tennessee State All-American Rhys Davies, 4 and 2, to help the USA sweep Thursday's afternoon singles matches. Lovemark birdied eight holes in the win and was the only American player to never trail in his match.
