Lovemark Advances To U.S. Amateur Third Round

USC sophomore Jamie Lovemark, set to begin his second collegiate season and first as reigning NCAA individual champion, advanced to the third round of the 2007 U.S. Amateur with a 1-up win over American Josh DuPont on Thursday (Aug. 23) at the Olympic Club in San Francisco.
Lovemeark first defeated Argentina's Estanislao Goya, 3-and-2, in the first round of match play on Tuesday.
In a close battle between two players who both hail from the San Diego area, Lovemark was 1-down to DuPont heading into the 18th hole, but evened the match with a par to DuPont's birdie.
Three extra holes later, Lovemark secured the third-round berth with another par on the par-3 3rd hole.
Lovemark fell to his third-round opponent, Nick Taylor of Canada, 3-and-2. Lovemark was tied after six holes, but fell behind midway through the course. With Taylor 3up after 15 holes, both players scored pars on the 16th hole, giving the match to Taylor.
