
USC Men's Volleyball Sweeps Hawaii

Murphy Troy had 19 kill while hitting .412 and added 14 digs and 4 aces, all match highs, to lead the No. 7-ranked USC men's volleyball team to a 30-25, 30-27, 30-23 sweep over host No. 13 Hawaii on Friday (Jan. 9) in the second day of play at the Outrigger Hotels Invitational in Honolulu.
Both teams' records moved to 1-1. The Trojans lost a tight 5-game match to top-ranked, defending NCAA champion Penn State on Friday (Jan. 8) and Hawaii beat No. 10 Ohio State.
USC dominated Hawaii statistically, outhitting the Warriors .378 to .252 and getting more blocks (9.5 to 4) and aces (5 to 1).
USC's Sean Dennis added 12 kills (hitting .409) and a match-best 6 blocks, Austin Zahn had 10 kills (hitting .571) and 5 blocks, Tony Ciarelli also had 10 kills, Luke Morris got 9 digs and Honolulu native Riley McKibbin had 53 assists and 8 digs.
For Hawaii, Joshua Walker had 15 kills while hitting .353 and Gus Tuaniga had 11 digs.
The Trojans close tourney play on Saturday (Jan. 10) with a 4 p.m. HT match versus No. 10 Ohio State.
