On Wednesday (May 27) USC junior Liene Bertasjus was named to the all Pac-10 Conference teams for women's rowing.
Members of the All-Conference rowing teams are based upon each institution's finish in the varsity eight championship race at the Conference Championships, which were held May 17 on Lake Natoma in Gold River, Calif. The Conference champion provides four members of the All-Conference team, the Pac-10 second-place crew provides three members, and the Pac-10 third-place finisher provides two. All other participating Conference crews receive one selection each.
USC's representative on the All-Conference team is junior Liene Bertasjus. Bertasjus hails from Jurmala, Latvia and is a key piece to the success of USC's varsity eight crew. She has grown as a leader and rowed out of the No. 7 seat for most of the spring season, which included a win over perennial favorite Harvard at the Charles River Challenge in Boston, Mass. Bertasjus was a 2008 CRCA Pocock All-American who has also been named to the 2009 CRCA All-West Region First Team.
Individual awards, including Rowers of the Year, Newcomers of the Year, and Coaches of the Year, are scheduled to be announced on Wednesday, June 3, following this weekend's NCAA Women's Rowing Championships.
