
Murphy Troy Named All-American First Teamer

USC sophomore outside hitter Murphy Troy was named to the 2009 AVCA Division I-II Men's Volleyball All-American first team, while freshman outside hitter Tony Ciarelli made the All-American second team.
Troy is USC's first such first teamer since Donald Suxho and Brook Billings in 2000. Ciarelli is the first Trojan freshman to make the All-American second team since Tom Duke in 1986.
Both have been key players on a USC team that won its first-ever Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Tournament title and is headed to its first NCAA Championship appearance since 1991.
In 2009 while hitting .304, Troy leads USC in kills (565) and aces (43). He currently is 8th nationally in kills (5.00, fifth in MPSF) and 15th in aces (0.38, fourth in MPSF).
Ciarelli is second on the team in kills (434) and aces (29) while hitting .282.
Joining Troy on the first team are UC Irvine's Ryan Ammerman, Long Beach State's Dean Bittner, Pepperdine's Paul Carroll, Penn State's Max Holt, Max Lipsitz and Will Price, Stanford's Erik Shoji and Kawika Shoji and Cal State Northridge's Eric Vance.
Also on the second team are UC Irvine's Carson Clark, Jordan DuFault and Kevin Wynne, Penn State's Dennis Del Valle and Edgardo Goas, Lewis' Drew Pickering, Cal State Northridge's Jacek Ratajczak, Saint Francis' Jordan Varee and Long Beach State's Dustin Watten.
Erik Shoji was named Newcomer of the Year. The National Player of the Year will be announced on May 6.
