
Austin Zahn Named To U.S. Pan Am Cup Team

USC junior middle blocker Austin Zahn has been named to the U.S. Men's National team that will compete this week in Chiapas, Mexico, for the NORCECA Pan American Cup.
Zahn, a 2-year starter with a .432 career hitting percentage, earned All-American third team honors in 2009. He made the NCAA All-Tournament team as he helped USC get to the 2009 NCAA Championship final.
Six other NORCECA teams are competing at the Pan American Cup. The United States is in Group A with Canada and Dominican Republic. Group B contains Mexico, Guatemala, Panama and Puerto Rico.
The competition begins today (Monday, June 15), but the United States won't play its first match until Tuesday against Dominican Republic at 6 p.m. in Chiapas (4 p.m. PDT). The U.S. Men will play Canada on Wednesday at 6 p.m. (4 p.m. PDT).
Joining Zahn on the 12-man U.S. roster are setters Tyler Hildebrand and Brian Thornton, outside hitters Eric Vance, Robert Tarr and Nils Nielsen, opposite hitters Dean Bittner and Matt McKinney, middle blockers Nate Meerstein and Max Holt, liberos Isaac Kneubuhl and Dustin Watten. The team is coached by Rick McLaughlin of UC Santa Barbara.
