Sophomore T.J. Vogel fired a third-round 66 to vault into second place while junior Steve Lim finished sixth to lead USC on the final day of the U.S. Collegiate Championship at The Golf Club of Georgia in Alpharetta, Ga., on Tuesday (Oct. 26).
The Trojans entered the final 18 holes in second place, 11 back of host Georgia Tech. But the Yellow Jackets maintained their torrid pace and won going away at 28-under 836, while USC finished fourth at 3-over 867 (288-279-300). UCLA was second (863) with Texas A&M third (866).
Vogel cruised to a 6-under round with six birdies and an eagle on 18 -- his second round in a row with an eagle -- to take second at 7-under 209 (74-69-66). Georgia Tech's James White won with a 12-under 204.
Lim didn't have his top form Tuesday, falling off the pace with a 4-over back 9, but was strong enough early in the tournament to take sixth at 3-under 213 (69-69-75).
Freshman Jeffrey Kang tied for 33rd at 7-over 223 (69-76-78), freshman Ramsey Sahyoun tied for 53rd at 11-over 227 (77-69-81) and sophomore Sam Smith tied for 62nd at 14-over 230 (76-72-82).
In other USC men's golf action on Tuesday, senior Bo DeHuff and sophomore Martin Trainer tied for eighth to lead a trio of Trojans playing individually at the Bill Cullum Invitational in Northridge, Calif.
DeHuff finished the three-round event at even 216 (70-73-73) while Trainer tied him with rounds of 71-71-74. CSUN's Nick Delio won with an 8-under 208.
Sophomore Stewart Hagestad tied for 58th at 15-over 231 (75-78-78).
