FULLERTON, CALIF. -- The USC women's soccer team out-shot its No. 18 opponent UNC Greensboro but was unable to break through in recording a 0-0 tie in the Trojans' Friday game at the Under Armour Invitational hosted by Cal State Fullerton. In keeping a clean slate in goal, freshman goalkeeper Shelby Church secured her second shutout, as she pulled in a pair of saves while her Trojan defenders swept the back clear to hold tight to the shutout. USC goes to 1-1-2 overall with its second tie of the season, and UNC Greensboro is now 3-0-1.
After nine first-half shots and five more in the second, the Women of Troy were still staring at a scoreless scoreboard by the close of regulation play. USC managed three shots in the second overtime period, forcing UNCG goalkeeper Kelsey Kearney to make her third save of the game, but the winning goal would not come for the Trojans.
USC freshman Elizabeth Eddy had four shots to lead the Trojan attack tonight. USC now turns to face Purdue in the teams' second game of the invitational in Fullerton, Calif., at 11 a.m. on Sunday (Sept. 5).
