Morozov, 200y Free Relay Win At SMU Classic

Freshman Vladimir Morozov won the 100y free and helped USC to a win in the 200y free relay on the second and final day of the SMU Swim Classic in Dallas on Saturday (Jan. 15).
No. 13 Michigan won the six-team event with 318 points, No. 9 North Carolina was second (302), No. 7 USC was third (300) with No. 5 Florida fourth (272), SMU fifth (242) and No. 21 Purdue sixth (240).
In the uniquely scored event, each team places one swimmer in a championship final and one in a `B' final (plus one diving event per night). Each team has a maximum of eight swimmers and one diver.
Morozov, ranked first in the nation in the 100y free, won the event Saturday with a 43.69, well ahead of second place. Morozov then led the 200y free relay and with junior Patrick White, sophomore Clement Lefert and freshman Dimitri Colupaev won in 1:21.09. Freshman Jack Wagner was second in the `B' final (46.26).
USC was just edged in the 200y medley relay as sophomore Alex Lendrum, senior Dillon Connolly, freshman Chase Bloch and Morozov took second in 1:29.53.
Lefert was second in the 500y free (4:26.58) and the 200y fly (1:46.46), Connolly was fifth in the 200y breast (2:02.49), Lendrum was second in the 200y back (1:46.53), senior diver Steven Starks was third in the 3-meter springboard (342.52) and Colupaev was fourth in the 200y IM (1:52.57) with Lendrum second in the `B' final (1:51.78).
