
Freshmen Fight Through Bulldog Classic

FRESNO, CALIF. -- USC freshmen Eric Johnson and Jonny Wang both gathered up some wins this past weekend in action at the Fresno State Bulldog Classic. Both were seeded fifth for their respective singles flights, with Wang rolling to the semifinals of his flight and Johnson getting to the quarterfinals in his. The pair also teamed up for doubles, going 1-1 in the action in Fresno.
Wang snagged straight-set wins in his first three matches to advance to the semifinals. There, he faced No. 2 seed David Ayoun of Fresno State. The two got tangled in a three-setter in the semis, with Ayoun managing a 6-3, 3-6, 6-2 win to advance to final. Johnson, meanwhile, had a by in his first round before tacking a three-set win of his own in the Round of 16. He would face No. 4 seed Ivan Castro of Pacific in the quarterfinals, falling 7-5, 6-0.
In doubles, Johnson and Wang opened with an 8-4 win in the Round of 16 before falling to the No. 2 seeded hosts 8-4 in the quarters.
