Senior Inah Park's 1-over 73 led a shorthanded USC womens' golf team, playing with only four players, during the first round of the 2011 SEC/Pac-12 Challenge, Friday Sunday (Oct. 21), at the Holston Hills C.C. in Knoxville, Tenn.
The Trojans, due to scheduling and injury issues, were only able to field a four-person team this week and finished the first round at 10-over 298, tied for ninth. Typically, teams play with five players because scoring allows teams to drop their lowest individual score per round. The last time USC began a tournament with only four players was the 2002 NCAA Regional.
Park was 1-under on the front 9 before falling to 3-over after the first three holes of the back 9. She bounced back, however, to finish the final six holes at 2-under for her 1-over 73, tied for 23rd.
Senior Lisa McCloskey was one back of Park at 2-over 74, tied for 32nd, with one birdie on the day and three bogeys. Sophomore Rachel Morris finished tied for 46th at 3-over 75 after being 4-over through the first six holes. Freshman Kristen Park finished at 4-over 76, tied for 55th.
Action continues Saturday at 9:30 a.m. and at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday.
