Sophomore Sophia Popov fired a 1-under 71 to lead the No. 3 USC women's golf team to third place after the first round of an abbreviated 36-hole Battle at Rancho Bernardo (Calif.) on Monday (March 19).
A day after the first round was washed out due to rain, USC stood four back at 7-over 295, tied for second with Arizona State behind leader Tulane. Play will conclude Tuesday.
Popov is tied for third at 71 after her three-birdie, two-bogey showing. Freshman Doris Chen is tied for ninth at 1-over 73. She was 2-under through nine before bogeying four of her next eight holes. She finished with a birdie to get back in the top 10.
Senior Inah Park is tied for 22nd at 3-over 75, sophomore Rachel Morris is tied for 27th at 4-over 76 and senior Lisa McCloskey is tied for 58th at 7-over 79. It was McCloskey's first round over 77 this year.
