Freshman Anthony Paolucci and sophomore Jeffrey Kang each carded 1-under rounds while senior Steve Lim maintained a share of first place to pace the USC men's golf team as it remained in the hunt after the second round of the 2011 U.S. Collegiate Championship at the Golf Club of Georgia in Alpharetta, Ga., Monday (Oct. 24).
The Trojans, who enjoyed a slim one-stroke lead after the first round, slipped to a tie for third with Washington at 6-under 570 (282-288) but are only four strokes back of leader and host Georgia Tech (566). UCLA is second at 569.
Lim, eying his first collegiate title, wasn't as sharp as on Sunday but thanks to his opening round 66, he is still tied for first at 5-under 139 (66-73) with 18 holes to play. He was par through 5 holes before a double bogey on 6. He birdied 7 and 9 and bogeyed 8 and carded pars over the entire back 9.
Paolucci moved into a tie for 13th at 2-under 142 (71-71). He opened play with an eagle on the par 5 first hole and finished the front 9 at 1-under. He was even on the back 9 thanks to a birdie on 18.
Kang is even for the event at 144 (73-71). A roller coaster front 9 featured two birdies, two bogeys, a double bogey on the par 3 6th hole and an eagle on the par 5 ninth hole. He had two birdies and a bogey on the back 9.
Junior Martin Trainer is tied for 26th at 1-over 145 (72-73). He was 1-over going out and even on the back 9. Sophomore Ramsey Sahyoun is 59th at 7-over 151 (77-74).
Action concludes Tuesday at 9 a.m.
