Troy Takes 7th At U.S. Collegiate Championship

The USC men's golf team spent the better part of three rounds battling for first at the 2011 U.S. Collegiate Championship before struggling over the final stretch, ultimately finishing seventh on Tuesday (Oct. 25) at the Golf Club of Georgia in Alpharetta, Ga.
The leaders after the first round and tied for third after the second, USC was unable to maintain the momentum and finished seventh at 7-over 871 (282-288-301). UCLA took first at 12-under 852 while Washington and Auburn tied for second at 9-under 855.
Senior Steve Lim was USC's highest finisher, tying for 13th at 1-under 215 (66-73-76). He had four bogeys during his final round and 14 pars.
Freshman Anthony Paolucci tied for 31st at 4-over 220 (71-71-81). He had back-to-back birdies on 9 and 10 but found little momentum elsewhere on the course.
Sophomore Jeffrey Kang (73-71-76) joined Paolucci at 4-over 220. He opened his final round with eight pars but finished the final 10 holes at 4-over with one birdie.
Junior Martin Trainer tied for 37th at 5-over 221 (72-73-76). He began the final round with an eagle on the par 5 first hole and was 4-under through 8 holes but finished the back 9 at 8-over.
Sophomore Ramsey Sahyoun tied for 49th at 8-over 224 (77-74-73), posting the team's top third round. He had four birdies on the day and was even on the back 9.
The Trojans wrap up the fall schedule Monday through Wednesday (Oct. 31-Nov. 2) at the Gifford Collegiate Championship at the CordeValle G.C. in San Martin, Calif.
