Nguyen, Sarmiento Roll On At ITA All-American

TULSA, OKLA. -- USC senior Daniel Nguyen jumps into tomorrow's quarterfinals at the ITA Men's All-American Championships after a quick win today in Round of 16 singles. Meanwhile, sophomore Ray Sarmiento is back on a streak with another win in the consolation singles bracket to advance to the consolation semis tomorrow in Tulsa, Okla.
Daniel Nguyen had earned a smooth victory after claiming a three-setting the previous night in Tulsa. In today's Round of 16 singles clash, Nguyen drew up against Vanderbilt's Charlie Jones. Nguyen pounded out a 6-3 win in the first and worked ahead 3-0 in the second before Jones retired from the match. The win rolls No. 16 Nguyen into the quarterfinals for a morning matchup against Alexis Kelgou of Texas A&M. A win would put Nguyen in the semis that afternoon at 2 p.m. ET.
After a loss in the first round of the main draw yesterday, Ray Sarmiento has bounced back with his second win of consolation singles play. Today, No. 15 Sarmiento took down No. 53 Patrick Kawka of BYU with a solid 6-4, 6-0 win. Tomorrow, Sarmiento will face his second top-10 opponent of the week as he goes up against Pepperdine's No. 10 Sebastian Fanselow in the consolation quarters tomorrow morning. The winner will get sent to the consolation semis at 2 p.m. ET tomorrow.
