Daniel Nguyen Wraps Up As All-American Semifinalist

TULSA, OKLA. -- USC men's tennis players Daniel Nguyen and Ray Sarmiento wrapped up their strong runs at the ITA All-American Championships on Saturday in Tulsa, Okla. Nguyen's win streak carried him into the main draw semifinals, where he took his first loss of the season. Sarmiento had rebounded from his main draw loss to get a run going in the consolation bracket, falling in the quarterfinals.
No. 16 Daniel Nguyen forced his way into the final four of the All-American with a resounding morning quarterfinal win, beating Texas A&M's Alexis Kelgou 6-2, 6-0 to move into the semifinals. Nguyen would take on a newcomer to the collegiate scene in Virginia freshman Mitchell Frank in the semis. Frank got an early advantage on Nguyen and registered a 6-4, 6-2 win to wrap up the Trojan's impressive All-American efforts in Tulsa.
No. 15 Ray Sarmiento faced his second top-10 opponent of the week in going up against No. 10 Sebastian Fanselow in the consolation quarterfinals on Saturday. Fanselow had control of that one, winning 6-3, 6-2 to end Sarmiento's hopes of following in the footsteps of teammate Steve Johnson's 2010 run to the consolation singles championship at the ITA All-American.
