USC senior outside hitter Tony Ciarelli earned the title Best of the Beach on May 14 at the CBS Sports Alt Games Collegiate Beach Championship in San Diego, Calif.
In the Best of the Beach format, players are matched up with different partners for each match until the final, when they play with the same partner as the semifinals.
In the men's championship match, Ciarelli and partner Brent Schirripa of Pepperdine came back to defeat former Trojan Joey Dykstra and Florida Atlantic's Mark Van Zwieten, 11-15, 15-9, 15-8.
All sets in the final were played to 15 points due to the television coverage. The final matches are scheduled to be shown on CBS Sports later this summer.
Ciarelli went 5-0 on his way to the championship match. Along the way, he partnered with Dykstra, Pepperdine's Parker Kalmbach and Ball State's Matthew McCarthy.
Ciarelli and Schirripa defeated USC teammate Jeff Carlson and Kalmbach in the semifinals, 15-10, 10-15, 15-9.
