SAN DIEGO, CALIF. - The USC women's soccer team got tagged with its third loss of the season, falling in a tough 3-2 decision to Kansas today in San Diego, Calif. The first half was a relative goal-fest, with USC getting the first strike, but Kansas broke a 2-2 halftime tie with a goal in the 63rd minute to come away with the win. USC goes to 0-3 with the loss, while Kansas improves to 2-1.
Brittany Kerridge had a productive day for the Trojans, setting up USC's opening goal by delivering an assist - her second of the year - to Kristina Noriega in the 5th minute of play. Kerridge would come up big for USC in the 41th minute, after the Jayhawks had made a comeback push to take a 2-1 lead on goals from Amy Grow and Whitney Berry in the 16th and 38th minutes, respectively. Kerridge's equalizer came on a free kick blast, pulling USC even for a 2-2 lockup going into halftime.
In the second half, however, Kansas got a leg up once again. Jamie Fletcher connected on a shot from 15 yards out, putting Kansas on top 3-2 in the 63rd minute of play. Another equalizer would not be in the cards for the Trojans in the remaining half hour of action. The 3-2 loss marks the third straight for USC, which is the first time the program has fallen in an 0-3 hole to start a season.
USC has a chance to put a stop to the slide on Sunday (Aug. 28) at 2 p.m. when the Trojans take on Pacific at Torero Stadium in San Diego.
