Known as a clincher for the USC men's tennis team through four straight NCAA Championships, Trojan grad Daniel Nguyen certainly figured out how to win during his collegiate years. Now, Nguyen has been able to translate some of that success to the pro level, as he has won his first pro title with the doubles crown at the ITF Edwardsville Futures in Illinois last week.
Nguyen was playing with countryman Ryan Rowe at the F23 Futures event on the doubles scene. Together, the U.S. pair posted straight-set wins through the Round of 16, quarterfinals, semifinals and then finally in the title match against a Korean team to win it all. Nguyen also competed in singles, moving through three rounds of qualifying and netting two wins in the main draw before falling to Eric Quigley in the quarterfinals. Quigley had been the 2012 NCAA singles finalist just months ago, when Nguyen's fellow senior teammate Steve Johnson claimed his second straight national championship.
