Quincey and Tavai Named USC Student-Athletes of the Week

Los Angeles-Alex Quincey of the women's soccer team and J.R. Tavai of the football team earn USC Student-Athlete of the Week honors for October 7-14.

Women's Student-Athlete of the Week: Junior midfielder Alex Quincey was the conquering heroine for the Women of Troy in a powerful weekend on the road against two top-10 opponents. Quincey scored a powerful equalizer in the second half for USC in an eventual 1-1 tie at No. 8 California to snap a four-game losing skid by the Trojans. Two days later, Quincey's 59th-minute header proved the game-winner for USC against No. 5 Stanford. The win was USC's first over the Cardinal since 2005 and helped USC notch a long-awaited Pac-12 win after a winless start to conference play. The two-goal weekend for Quincey marked her first scores of 2013. Her goal against Cal also snapped a 454-minute scoreless stretch but the Trojans, who are now 6-6-2 overall and 1-3-1 in Pac-12 play after their two big road outings.

Men's Student-Athlete of the Week: Junior outside linebacker J.R. Tavai came off the bench in his first start of the season to record 10 tackles, with 3.5 for a loss. He also had half a sack and a quarterback hurry in the Trojans' 38-31 victory over Arizona. In the first-half alone, Tavai tallied eight tackles and 2.5 for a loss. Tavai and the USC defense held Arizona scoreless in the first quarter and have allowed just seven points in the first quarter this entire season season.
