
No. 5 USC Men's Volleyball Sweeps UC San Diego

Josh Kirchner had 12 kills while hitting .588 to lead the No. 5-ranked USC men's volleyball team to a 25-14, 25-16, 25-19 sweep at UC San Diego in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation match on Thursday (Jan. 22).
The Trojans remained undefeated in 2015, improving to 4-0 overall and 3-0 in the MPSF. UC San Diego fell to 1-4 overall and 0-3 in the MPSF.
Alex Slaught added 8 kills and 3 aces for USC, while Micah Christenson had 7 digs and 3 blocks.
For UCSD, Tanner Syftestad had 10 kills and Tyler Bird had 9 digs.
The Trojans hit .358 to the Tritons' .054 and USC served 5 aces and had 10.5 blocks.
USC used a 6-0 run in the first set to go up 15-8 and never looked back while hitting .650 and getting 6.5 blocks. In the second set, the Trojans went on a 9-0 run to build an insurmountable 12-5 edge and starting subbing in reserve players midway through the set. USC scored three consecutive points to open up an 11-8 run in the third set and steadily pulled away.
USC remains on the road when it visits No. 3 UC Irvine on Friday (Jan. 23) at 7 p.m. for another MPSF match.
