Giuliana Olmos & Sabrina Santamaria Earn ITA All-American Status
June 04, 2015 | Women's Tennis
USC women's tennis has landed two Trojans on the ITA All-American list for 2015. Now a five-time ITA All-American, Sabrina Santamaria has a newcomer to the honor roll by her side as Giuliana Olmos has also secured All-American status this year. The two also lead a pack of eight Women of Troy who have finished out the year ranked in the final ITA rankings.
Senior Sabrina Santamaria secured her fifth set of ITA All-American honors by storming into the NCAA Singles Round of 16. Sidelined by a season-ending knee injury last season, Santamaria fought her way back to action this year and was a crucial piece in the Trojans' run to the NCAA Semifinals as a team. She finishes out her Trojan career as a three-time ITA All-American in singles and a two-time ITA All-American in doubles. In 2013, she made history alongside doubles partner Kaitlyn Christian in winning the doubles "triple crown" as the pair captured the ITA All-American, ITA National Indoor and NCAA Doubles Championship titles. Santamaria finishes out her final season at USC ranked #28 in the nation in both singles and in doubles with partner Zoë Katz.
Junior Giuliana Olmos also had a standout season for the Trojans this year. Olmos had secured the first ITA All-American honor of her career before the NCAA Singles tournament even began, having picked up a 9-16 seed into the draw. Olmos would further lock in on her All-American singles status in finishing out this season ranked #15 in the nation. In doubles, Olmos paired to great success with senior Zoë Scandalis, and the duo have wrapped the year ranked #20 in the nation in the doubles scene.
Zoë Scandalis also stands tall in the final singles rankings, finishing her Trojan career ranked #39 in the land in singles. Meanwhile, three USC freshmen have made their marks with top-100 national rankings as well. Madison Westby comes in next at #53 in the nation; Gabby Smith finishes up at #82; and Meredith Xepoleas sits at #85 at season's end.
The doubles rankings also includes two more Trojans. Sophomore Zoë Katz has doubled up with a #28 ranking with Santamaria and also standing at #39 in the nation alongside senior partner Gabriella DeSimone. DeSimone and Katz posted a 10-1 record together this season.
