No. 5 Stanford Men's Volleyball Defeats USC

Conrad Kaminsk1 had 11 kills while hitting .611 and he added 10 blocks to lead the No. 5-ranked Stanford men's volleyball team to a 25-16, 25-23, 23-25, 25-20 win over unranked USC in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation match on Thursday (March 24) in Palo Alto.
Stanford improved to 16-3 overall and 14-3 in the MPSF. USC had its season-best 2-match winning streak snapped while falling to 6-15 overall and 4-13 in the MPSF.
Lucas Yoder had 18 kills (hitting .389) to lead the Trojans, while teammate Alex Slaught added 14 kills while hitting .500 off the bench and Brooks Varni had a match-high 12 digs.
Gabriel Vega and Madison Hayden each tallied 9 kills for Stanford, with Vega adding 3 aces and Hayden getting 5 blocks.
USC outhit the Cardinal, .292 to .253, but the Trojans had 27 serving errors and Stanford served 10 aces. Stanford also had more blocks, 14.0 to 6.0
Stanford opened up a quick 4-2 lead in the first set and steadily increased its edge throughout the set while hitting .333 and serving 4 aces. It was more of the same in the second set, as the Cardinal moved out to an early 4-1 lead and, although USC hit .367 and pulled within a point late in the set, the Trojans were never able to catch all the way up. USC used a 4-0 run in the third set to go up 12-10 and held off the Cardinal the rest of the way as Troy hit .360. Stanford got back on track in the fourth set while hitting .375, building a 6-3 lead and USC was unable to get closer than within a point of the Cardinal from then on.
USC returns to action on Saturday (March 26) when it visits No. 6 Pepperdine at 7 p.m. PT in an MPSF contest.
