Okuma Named Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Week

The honor is the first of Okuma's career.
LOS ANGELES – USC junior defender Erika Okuma was named Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Week for the week of Sept. 26 through Oct. 2.
Over the weekend in victories over Oregon State and Oregon, Okuma assisted in half of the team's six goals, including assisting on both goals in Sunday's comeback 2-1 victory over Oregon.
First Okuma helped the Trojans to their fourth shutout of the season, defeating Oregon State 4-0 on Thursday at McAlister Field. She assisted on the third goal of the game.
Then on Sunday she helped shut down Oregon's offense after they went ahead with an early goal, keeping the Trojans close and she assisted on both USC goals in the final four minutes of play to push the Trojans to the 2-1 victory.
On the year Okuma now has tallied three assists and one goal, while the Trojans are ranked No. 6 nationally and are 8-1-1, 2-0-1 in Pac-12 play.
This Okuma's first career Pac-12 Player of the Week honor and the first award of 2017 for the Trojans. USC now has 40 weekly honors all-time.
