Â
The Women of Troy never trailed in the first set and came away with a 25-20 win. USC led by five at 20-15, but had to fight off a Sun Devil comeback that brought ASU within two points at 21-19. Dunn's kill followed by Okaro's error set the Women of Troy up at set point before Abercrombie tooled the Devil block for the win.
Â
The Trojans rolled out to an early 6-2 lead in the second frame, but surrendered all of it by the time ASU's 5-0 run put the Devils on top for good at 14-12. Arizona State led by as many as five points and held on through a three-kill run by Lanier to win, 25-21. In the third, the Trojans used back-to-back kills by Botkin to go in front by five, 9-4. The Devils cut the lead to two points at 13-11 on an Okaro kill, but USC pushed ahead for a six-point lead at 19-13 before Lanier's crosscourt termination ended a 25-19 win for the Trojans.
Â
The score was tied nine times and the lead changed hands six times before a 5-0 run by the Trojans put them on top, 18-15, and in front for good. Arizona State used a short run of its own to shave the lead to a point at 19-18, but Dunn and Lanier teamed for back-to-back kills and then Dunn and Abercrombie met up for a block to gain match point at 24-18. One final ASU error sealed the fate of the Sun Devils as USC won, 25-18, to take the match.
