Lovemark, Hagestad To Play In U.S. Open

Trojan duo looking for USC first win at Open since 1987.
Trojan All-American and NCAA champion Jamie Lovemark as well as former USC walk-on Stewart Hagestad -- the Low Amateur at the 2017 Masters -- will both be competing at the 2017 U.S. Open at Erin Hills (Wisc.) starting on Thursday (June 15).
Lovemark, the 2007 NCAA medalist, is enjoying a strong 2016-17 season and already has four top 20 results, including a tie for 10th at the Memorial Tournament last week as well as a tie for 18th at the Byron Nelson two weeks earlier. He kicked off the 2017 calendar with a tie for fourth at the Sony Open after a tie for sixth at the RSM Classic in November and has over $1.1 million in earnings this year.
Lovemark qualified for the U.S. Open at the Columbus, Ohio, qualifier with a 10-under 134 (64-70). He tied for 15th at the U.S. Open in 2015.
Hagestad earned his second career start in a major by finishing third in a sectional qualifier at the Big Canyon C.C. two weeks ago. Hagestad finished third on his hometown turf with a 7-under 135 (67-68).
Hagestad was somewhat of a Cinderella story in April when he became the first Mid-Amateur champion ever to make the cut at The Masters and then parlayed that into winning the Silver Cup as The Masters Low Amateur with a tie for 36th at 6-over 294 (74-73-74-73).
The only Trojan to win the U.S. Open was Scott Simpson in 1987.
