Mulcare, Scott Win Thrice Each As USC Sweeps ASU

Trojans host Arizona on Saturday at 9:30 a.m.
The USC men's and women's swimming and diving teams, led by seniors Riley Scott and Patrick Mulcare winning three events apiece, swept Arizona State in the first home dual meets of the season on Friday (Nov. 2) at the Uytengsu Aquatics Center.
The Trojan women won, 168-121, to improve to 2-0 while the USC men, in their first dual meet of the season, won 173-129.
USC opened the meet by sweeping the 200y medley relay. Junior Louise Hansson, Scott and sophomores Caitlin Tycz and Marta Ciesla won in 1:40.44 while Troy's men's squad of seniors Mulcare, Carsten Vissering and Alex Valente and sophomore Nikola Miljenic won in 1:27.34.
Senior Elizabeth Stinson won the women's 1000y free in 10:02.89 with senior Allie Wooden second in 10:08.42. In the men's 1650y free, freshman Victor Johansson won in 15:17.22, just 0.12 off the top time in the nation entering this weekend and an NCAA B cut. Freshman Owen Kao was third (15:35.84).
Junior Tatum Wade claimed the women's 200y free in 1:48.00 while junior Kirsten Vose was third out of lane 8 (1:49.79). Freshman Alexei Sancov won the men's 200y free in 1:36.64, junior Thomas Reed closing in for third (1:38.26).
Hansson swam to first in the women's 100y back in 53.35 while junior Abby Miller took third in 57.76. In the men's race, Mulcare hit the wall first at 47.51, beating ASU's Zachary Poti by 0.29. Freshman Ariel Spektor was fourth (51.51).
Junior Henry Fusaro won the 1-meter in 373.13 while junior Brad Dalrymple, in his first official USC action, was fourth in 250.50. Junior Carly Souza led USC on 3-meter with 332.85, good for second, with fellow junior Naomi Gowlett third (309.60) and senior Madi Witt fourth (281.78).
Senior Maddie Wright won her specialty, the 200fly, with a 1:56.13, leading a Trojan sweep. Tycz was second (1:58.84) with Catherine Sanchez third (1:59.99). In the men's 200y fly, sophomore Mark Jurek, out of lane 2, won in 1:48.89 while Walker Bell touched second in (1:49.39).
Ciesla won the first of the two sprints by capturing the women's 50y free in 22.77 with senior Lily Dubroff third (23.80) and Kirsten Vose fourth (24.00). ASU's Evan Carlson won the men's 50 (19.89). USC's Kyle Grissom was second (20.26), Miljenic third (20.35).
Ciesla followed her win in the 50 by returning from the break to capture the 100y free in 50.88 with Wade touching 0.07 behind her. ASU's Carlson also doubled up, taking the men's race in 44.06 with Sancov second (44.52).
Hansson won her second race in the 200y back, hitting the wall in 1:56.50 while Miller was third (2:05.27). Mulcare also completed a back sweep, winning the men's 200 in 1:44.01.
Scott and freshman Isa Odgers battled it out in the women's 200y breast, the vet just out-touching the youngster, 2:12.43 to 2:12.50. Aroesty was third (2:14.16). Vissering, in lane 8 like Odgers, took the men's race in 2:01.26 with Mario Koenigsperger third (2:03.35).
ASU finished 1-2 in the 500y free, Emma Nordin winning in 4:54.51 with Elizabeth Stinson third (4:45.65). Johansson took it out strong in lane 2 in the men's race and won in 4:24.25 while fellow frosh Owen Kao was third (4:28.36).
USC didn't need Hansson to sweep the 100y fly as Wright (53.92) took first and was followed in by Sanchez (54.16) and Tycz (54.29). ASU's Khalil Fonder wins the men's race in 48.33 with Sancov second (48.62) and Spektor third (48.68).
Scott made it three wins by taking the women's 400 IM in 4:18.02 with Odgers third (4:24.02). Mulcare also won his third in the medley, pocketing the men's 200y IM in 1:48.35.
Completing the diving action, Fusaro won the 1-meter (374.70) while Gowlett won the women's event (303.08).
Closing the meet, USC's women were disqualified in the 400y free relay due to a bad exchange. In the men's relay, Sancov, Miljenic, senior Kyle Grissom and Reed finished second in 2:57.96, just 0.13 out of first.
