LOS ANGELES – The USC women's soccer coaching staff garnered Pacific Region Coaching Staff of the Year honors after leading the Trojans to a 17-2-3 season and yet another run in the NCAA Tournament.
It is the second such award for Head Coach Keidane McAlpine and just the second such regional coaching award in USC history. The honor was voted on by NCAA Division I coaches around the country through the United Soccer Coaches organization. McAlpine was also named Pacific Region Coach of the Year in 2013 while at Washington State, before the award was officially moved to a full staff honor several years ago.
McAlpine was assisted by Associate Head Coach Jason Lockhart, Assistant Coach Sammy Towne and Volunteer Assistant Ian Feuer this season as the team led the Trojans to their fifth straight NCAA Tournament appearance and a ranking as high as No. 2 in the country. USC won 17 games (third most in program history), posted 15 shutouts (second most in program history) and had a 57-11 goal differential (best in program history) this season.
McAlpine and Lockhart both came to USC from Washington State prior to the 2014 season and have since returned USC to its spot as a perennial National Championship contender, winning the program's second title in 2016. Lockhart was elevated to Associate Head Coach prior to the start of the 2018 season. Towne joined the Trojan staff prior to this season after spending time at both UNC Greensboro and her alma mater Auburn. Feuer has worked with the Trojan goalkeepers as a volunteer assistant since 2014.
Under McAlpine, USC has a 78-21-12 record over five seasons, and has never missed the NCAA Tournament or won less than 12 games. The Trojans have made it to at least the second round of the postseason four times and to at least the third round three times, to go along with winning the aforementioned 2016 National Title.
