Cukierman Moves On In Doubles And Singles At Oracle ITA Fall Champs

Sophomore is victorious in singles and in doubles with teammate Tanner Smith.
SURPRISE, ARIZ. — USC sophomore Daniel Cukierman's busy days in Surprise, Ariz., continue after another winning day in both the singles and doubles realms at the Oracle ITA National Fall Championships. Lined up for Round of 16 singles play tomorrow (Nov. 9), Cukierman also pairs up with partner Tanner Smith for the doubles quarterfinals.
Cukierman and Smith were up against an upset-minded team from Drake in today's Round of 16 match. But the #40-ranked Trojan duo would not be shaken, posting a smooth 6-4, 6-4 win today over the Drake pair that upset the draw's top seeds the previous day. Cukierman and Smith will play a team from Old Dominion tomorrow in the doubles quarterfinals.
Singles play saw #31 Daniel Cukierman prevail, as the sophomore pinned up a swift 6-2, 6-1 win over #92 Bojan Jankulovski of Miami to power on through to the Round of 16. Cukierman will square off against #58 Kyle Seelig of Ohio State in that round to fight for a spot in the quarterfinals. The other Trojan to snag a singles win today was senior Tanner Smith. Playing in the consolation draw, Smith also issued a straight-set decision to advance, topping California's Yuta Kikuchi 6-3, 6-4 to take a place in the consolation Round of 16.
Less fortunate in the singles realm today were seniors Logan Smith and Laurens Verboven. Smith fell in three sets to Virginia Tech's Jason Kros, while #81 Verboven was up against #33 Johannes Schretter of Baylor in his Round of 32 match. Schretter took that one in straight sets to wrap Verboven's run as well.
