Brandon Holt and Tanner Smith To Compete At Blizzard Wild Card Challenge
December 14, 2018 | Men's Tennis, Features
Trojans are among a group of top collegiate players in action at the USTA National Campus this weekend.
USC junior Brandon Holt and senior Tanner Smith are off to Orlando this week to do battle among some of the best collegians at the Blizzard Wild Card Challenge. The victor earns a ticket to the main draw at the Orlando ATP 80 Challenger at the end of the month. This week, Holt and Smith join a group of eight men's players in action at the USTA National Campus and Collegiate Center from Dec. 15-18.
Players will be divided into two groups for round-robin play across the first two days. On Dec. 17, the top two players in each group advance to the semifinals, with the title match set for Dec. 18.
Junior Brandon Holt entered the fall as the nation's No. 4 ranked singles player, but was limited in his fall competition for USC. He was named to the United States team that traveled to France last month, bringing home a gold medal with Team USA at the Master'U BNP Paribas Collegiate Tournament. A three-time ITA All-American, Holt is primed for another successful spring with the Trojans. Senior Tanner Smith, meanwhile, played a full slate of fall competition, going 11-5 with runs to the consolation singles title at the Battle in the Bay and an appearance in the ITA Southwest Regional singles final. He closed out the fall with his first-ever singles ranking, slotted at No. 34 in the nation while also sitting at No. 45 in the land in doubles.
Live streaming and scoring will be available at ustanationalcampus.com.
