The Women of Troy used big scoring runs to open and close an 11-5 road victory over the Hokies
BLACKSBURG, Va. – The eighth-ranked USC lacrosse team (1-0) collected an 11-5 season-opening road victory over Virginia Tech (0-1) at the Hokies' Indoor Practice Facility on Saturday, Feb. 10. It was the program's first-ever road game to open a season as the Women of Troy recorded their third consecutive season-opening victory.

GAME NOTES
KEY PLAYERS
- Senior goalie Gussie Johns stacked up the Hokies with nine saves (five in the first half) and kept the Hokies scoreless for the first 27:04 of the first half and the last 19:07 of the game.
- Sophomore transfer attacker Izzy McMahon filled up the score sheet and led all scorers with five points (3g, 2a). She recorded the first USC hat trick of the season and her first hat trick as a Trojan.
- Junior defender Jackie Gilbert collected a career-best five draw controls and picked up a ground ball.
- Virginia Tech's Tristan McGinley scored two goals and had four draw controls for the Hokies.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- USC opened the game with a 5-0 scoring run and held the Hokies scoreless for the first 27:04 of the game. The Trojans' first three goals were all from the eight-meter arc.
- Virginia Tech responded with a 3-0 scoring run that took place within the span of just 54 seconds to trim the lead to two goals (5-3) at halftime.
- The teams traded goals to open the second half and USC held a 7-5 lead when VaTech scored with 19:07 left to play.
- The Trojans scored the final four goals of the game and held the Hokies off the scoreboard for the final 19:07.
- Izzy McMahon scored USC's goal at 6:49 to put the Trojans up, 9-5, and then had the assists on goals by Hope Anhut (4:55) and Maeve McMahon (0:51) to close the game.

- The Women of Troy face No. 2-ranked Stony Brook (0-0) in the Orange County Lacrosse Showcase at LeBard Stadium in Costa Mesa, Calif. on Friday (Feb. 16).
- USC is 1-2 all-time against the Seawolves and dropped a 9-7 decision to SBU last year (Mar. 24, 2017) on Long Island.

GAME NOTES
- USC defeated Virginia Tech in the programs' first-ever meeting.
- The Women of Troy were playing their first-ever season opener on the road. The win is the third consecutive season-opening victory for the Trojans who are now 3-3 all-time in such games.
- The Trojans improved to 10-12 in all-time games played on the east coast (Eastern Time) and earned a win in their first-ever game played in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
- The Women of Troy improved to 3-5 all-time against opponents from the current makeup of the Atlantic Coast Conference.
- The Trojans improved to 1-1 in all-time games played indoors (May 21, 2016 at Syracuse Carrier Dome).
- USC has now won 39 of its last 44 contests.
- The win is the 70th in USC head coach Lindsey Munday's career. She is 70-30 overall.
- In her first game as a Trojan, sophomore transfer attacker Izzy McMahon scored a hat trick and led the Women of Troy with five points (3G, 2A).
- Including McMahon, four Trojans scored multiple goals. Graduate transfer Maeve McMahon scored two, sophomore midfielder Kerrigan Miller scored two, and freshman midfielder Kelsey Huff scored two.
