The Seawolves used a big 6-0 scoring run to pull away for a 14-10 win over the Women of Troy
COSTA MESA, Calif. – The eighth-ranked USC lacrosse team (1-1) dropped a 14-10 decision to No. 2-ranked Stony Brook (1-0) in the 2018 Orange County Lacrosse Showcase at LeBard Stadium on Friday, Feb. 16. The Women of Troy suffered their first loss of the season and fell to 1-3 in four all-time games with the Seawolves.

KEY PLAYERS
- Junior defender Jackie Gilbert secured a career-high 11 draw controls and helped the Women of Troy win the center circle by a 17-8 edge in the game.
- Senior goalie Gussie Johns had 12 saves and a game-high six ground balls.
- Senior attacker Maeve McMahon led the Trojans with five points and recorded her first USC hat trick with three goals and two assists. McMahon also secured four draw controls.
- Freshman midfielder Kelsey Huff recorded her first-career hat trick with three goals in the game.
- Stony Brook's Courtney Murphy scored the game's first two goals and finished with a game-high eight points (4g, 4a). Taryn Ohlmiller had seven points (4g, 3a) and Kylie Ohlmiller scored a goal to go with two assists.
- USC received seven yellow cards and had five in the first half alone. Stony Brook scored three of its goals in man-up situations. The Trojans' sophomore sensation Kerrigan Miller was tagged with a pair of yellow cards within the first 19 minutes of the game and was not permitted to return. She finished with two assists and six fouls on the night.
- Stony Brook used a 3-0 run to break a two-all tie and was never threatened again. After USC got within a goal at 5-4, SBU used a 4-0 run to close out the first half for a 9-4 lead at the break.
- The Seawolves led by as many as seven goals (11-4) just four minutes into the second half.
- USC closed the game on a 6-3 run, but could only pull as close as four goals (9-13, 10-14).
- The Women of Troy hit the road for pivotal Midwest matchups at No. 15 Notre Dame (Feb. 23) and at No. 11 Northwestern (Feb. 25). The Trojans earned a pair of wins during a similar trip in 2016.
GAME NOTES
- USC fell to 1-3 in four all-time meetings with Stony Brook and have lost each of the last two. In the Trojans' only win in the series, the score was also 14-10 (at McAlister Field, 2016).
- The Trojans fell to 8-4 in all-time top-10 match-up games and dropped to 9-11 all-time against teams ranked in the top 10.
- USC moves to 39-6 in its last 45 games.
- Junior defender Jackie Gilbert set a new career mark for the second consecutive game with 11 draw controls.
- Senior attacker Maeve McMahon scored her first hat trick as a Trojan and finished with five points (3g, 2a).
